Abstract-Alternative: Recently, a role theory has been recognized as an important theory in nursing practice and education. It provides the student with an understanding of the patient and the nurse's role. The purpose of this study is to apply a role theory into a baccalaureate nursing curriculum. A proposed model for baccalaureate nusing curriculum is developed for this study. This study was carried out taking the following steps. First, the concepts which are components of a role theory in sociology were analyzed and selected from the functional and the symbolic interaction perspectives. Second, major concepts of a role theory used in a baccalaureate nursing curriculum were identified by reviewing previous concepts and nursing literatures in nursing practice education. Identified concepts were:role, role conception, role expectation, role behavior, role taking, role making, role set, role stress and role strain. Third, a role theory was arrenged on the proposed curriculum. The proposed curriculum was divided into the general, the supportive, and the proffessional area. The professional area consisted of 3 elements, namely, nurse's role, nursing process, and understanding of the client. The basic unit as introductory to role theory was placed in the supportive area of the curriculum to facilitate the students' understanding of the identified concepts. In the professional area, the concepts were placed according to the level of health. Fourth, the teaching-learning plan of the basic unit was developed. The objectives of the unit were analyzed according to Bloom's taxonomy of objectives. The contents of the unit were mainly focussed on the cognitive domain. Lastly, the survey was carried out to obtain the poinion about application of a role theory to the curriculum from the nursing educators who understood the basis of a role theory. The survey was conducted through a questionnaire. As a result, some contents of a role theory placed on the curriculum were modified.
