Abstract-Alternative: The present investigation was designed to provide additional information on the interrelationships among age, frequency of recovery of group A streptococci and serological responces evoked by these organisms, in the belief that this information would lead to better understanding of the epidemiology of streptococcal diseases. The investigation on the carrier state of the group A strptococci among 70 students of St. Luke's College of Nursing and St. Luke's School of Nursing was carried out by throat culture every month from May 1975 to February 1977. During this period only 19 strains of group A streptococci were obtained by the cultural examination of a total of 1248 cases. This carrier rate (1.5%) was found to be lower than that of other workers in Japan and abroad. However, special regard may have to be paid to the fact that type 12 strains, which are said have some relation to acute glomerulonephritis, have been isolated in relatively high rate. During the entire period of examinations there was no case of scarlet fever, acute rheumatic fever acute glomerulonephritis, or epidemic of streptococcal diseases among the students. From the above mentioned experiences, the positive data concerning the epidemiology of streptococcal diseases could not be obtained. Finally, the age group, carrier state, antistreplysin O and their relationship to the epidemiology of streptococcal diseases have been discussed.
